Plant Tales & Morning Blooms🌱

My passion for gardening bloomed back in 2019, when I fell in love with the germination of a green bean and a chickpea seed. Even thought there are several images and videos that we have seen at school, never before had I seen it up close. From a small seed in hand, sown into the soil, to tiny sprouts and eventually delicate leaves. The process took me back to the simple truth that life, no matter how small, deserves awe.

One of the very first plants I grew was the Aparajita, also known as the blue pea vine. It's flowers are a dazzling shade of blue, almost magical, and they come in different varieties, some with single leaves, and some with clustered ones. Mine had clustered leaves, and I fell completely in love with its beauty.

I’ve always been obsessed with the color blue. For the longest time, I dreamed of having a blue rose, but when I learned that it doesn’t occur naturally, the Aparajita felt like the perfect alternative.
Being a creeper, the vine soon spread gracefully across my window railings. Every morning, I would wake up to find several fresh blooms smiling at me. My very first ritual of the day was simple but joyful, I would count the number of flowers that had bloomed and adore the sapphire hues spread across the window.
From flowering plants to vegetable-bearing ones, my collection has grown into quite a variety, suited to the Indian climate. I’ve even nurtured a few grass varieties and basic lawn weeds. I never really discriminated when it came to plant selection, I simply followed my intuition and adopted whatever I found pretty. As the age old saying goes - beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, the immense flora of our country is truly breathtaking.
These days, many people take up gardening mainly for decoration, often choosing indoor plants that are praised for their aesthetics. But for me, plants have always been much more than decor. They’ve been a source of joy regardless of their market value or rarity. Sometimes, this joy even comes from the overlooked weeds in my backyard, tiny worlds in themselves, blooming with delicate flowers that are just as beautiful as the celebrated ones. A few of my favorite ones are Amrul ( Oxalis corniculata ), Krishnaneel ( Anagallis arvensis ), Kanailata (Commelina diffusa), etc.

There are countless ways I’ve added plants to my collection. Some came from nurseries, others were gifted by friends and family. A few I’ve grown from seeds I collected myself, while some started from cuttings that I rooted and nurtured. I’ve even picked up entire plants with their roots intact and brought them home to give them a new life in my pots.

My plants have lived in earthen pots, ceramic pots, plastic pots, and sometimes even in recycled containers like old plastic bottles and ramen noodle cups. Each one has its own charm, and together they bring color and life into my home.
Recently, I had to move a few plants upstairs due to the lack of sunlight at my window. That’s one of the struggles of living in a city, you don’t always have the space for a proper garden. Maybe that’s why I’ve ended up keeping at least one plant at almost every window in my home. Wherever I can make space, I do.
Gardening has become an integral part of my world and I would love to learn more about your gardening stories as well. Let's Connect!
